AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!! I have entered the twilight zone! I am only half way through and I am not sure I really want to finish. I never thought it would go this way ... I loved the other three books - and maybe in the end I will like this one, but right now .... I just don't know ... It is a little more graphic, not as romantic, and kind of ... yuck! Has anyone finished it, yet? Anyone reading it? What do you think? Should I hang in there???? I am I going to agree with the author in the end??? Is this really how it's going to end???

Ok, I finally finished the book ... the last 150 pages are the best, I think. It is worth a read, even though I was freaking out in the middle of it. I think it ended the best way possible - even though I think it could have gone a million different ways. It did keep me reading to find out what was going to happen next.

I've only read the first one, but now that the kiddos are back in school I finally have time and can't wait to finish the rest!
I've almost come around to the idea that Edward is really ok. However, have you ever thought about what he symbolizes? If it where my daughter, I would tell her to run!
In my opinion Belle is the average teenage girl who falls in love with the illusive, mysterious boy with the secret past. However, in order for her to really be loved by him fully, she must give up herself and her family. In order for Belle to be with Edward, she must change her lifestyle and never see her family again. Talk about RED FLAGS!!!!
Were as Jacob is a "warm" teenage boy who has pretty normal teenage attitudes and feelings. He loves Belle for who she is - even when she does stupid irrational things. He may be different in the fact that he turns into a wolf - but in order for her to be with him, she would never have to give up her family or change who she is.
I know Edward says all the right things and does all the right things - and trust me, I got caught up in the romance of it all - but I really have a problem with this love triangle because of what I feel Edward symbolizes. Anyone else? Please set me straight ... I'm needing to feel some upliftment after reading 750 pages of let down ... even though deep down I knew there was no other way to end this book ... I'm still disappointed it couldn't be fixed in a different way to portray healthy relationships to the teenage girls and women who are reading it.
Didn't you think she ended up with the best of all the worlds. She still had a relationship with her dad, with Jacob, and of course with the Cullens. I was ticked for about the first 300 pages, but in the end I guess it's more about the bonds of love being unbreakable.
Thank you Ann - I think you helped put my mind at ease. You're right, her dad was accepting of who she became and was willing to continue a relationship with her and not ask too many questions. And Jacob really does end up happy, too. With out the whole "imprinting" thing, I would feel helplessly sad for him. And yes, true love - there is no stronger bond! Both Edward and Belle would be endlessly tourmented if they didn't get to be with each other ... and most of the stupid things she does are because she can't stand to be away from him.
I may not be happy that she has to change to be with him ... but, I don't know that there can be any resolution if she doesn't. And in many ways, Edward changes his innate feelings and behaviors as a vampire to be with her. The book does end in the best possible way -and who am I to judge what's right and wrong when it comes to werewolves and vampires? Seriously, I have no idea what I'd really do if I were in love with a vampire ...
Thank you, Ann! Now I can put this book to rest!
Did anyone ever watch "Moonlight" on CBS??? It was the same type of concept. Vampire in love with a mortal woman. He actually finds a way to become a human again, however he turns back into a vampire because that is the only way to save, Beth, the girl he loves.
I hope it comes back in the fall. But rumors are that it's been cancelled. Hopefully Stephenie Meyer took some tips from the television show for her up coming film, "Twilight", because they had some great special effects!
So, I was just reading an article in the "Clipper" - a Davis County, Utah newspaper ... and it got me thinking. Would you let your teenage daughter read this series?
Then, the thought occurred to me. Just because the main character is a teenager - therefore putting the book into the teen section, doesn't mean that it is meant for teenagers. Does anyone know whether or not books get catagorized based on the age of the characters - or the material discussed???? I think it's the aget of the characters ...
